Girona star Artem Dovbyk has on Friday repositioned himself as the leader of the race for this season’s Pichichi award.
As much comes after Míchel’s troops ran riot in their final outing of the La Liga campaign.
High-flying Girona closed out what has proven a historic season a short time ago, in a home meeting with the already-relegated Granada.
When all was said and done, the Catalans ran out victors by no fewer than seven goals to nil, closing out 2023/24 as they started it – with a bang.
Not only that, but, as alluded to above, star frontman Artem Dovbyk also regained the edge in the race for the La Liga top-scorer prize.
Having stood alone atop the Pichichi standings for several months now, Dovbyk was recently supplanted by Villarreal’s Alexander Sørloth.
On Friday, though, the Ukrainian rattled off a timely hat-trick.
This has taken Dovbyk’s tally for the campaign to an impressive 24 goals.
Sørloth, meanwhile, sits one behind on 23, ahead of the Yellow Submarine’s trip to El Sadar to face Osasuna on Saturday afternoon.
Over to you, Alexander…
