Summary
- You don’t control goalkeepers for most of the match, so you need to bring in someone you trust.
- Alisson, Emiliano Martinez and Thibaut Courtois can all be relied upon.
- Icons Edwin van der Sar and Iker Casillas are also superb in EAFC 25.
Goalkeepers are, to put it bluntly, absolutely crucial in EA Sports FC 25. While you control most of the players in your squad, the goalkeeper is an exception. It’s controlled by AI 99% of the time, meaning fate is out of your hands as a powerful shot is rifled towards the top, right corner.
In moments like this, you need a goalkeeper who can make world-class saves reliably. That’s not always easy to find, though, with some players in between the sticks becoming known for their inconsistency and struggles under pressure. The last thing you want is to be denied victory by something out of your control, after all.
We have already ranked the nine best gold card goalkeepers in EAFC 25, but now it’s time to look at improved versions. From Team of the Years (TOTYs) to Icons, it’s a list full of goalkeepers who will make extraordinary saves and, most importantly, act as a reliable figure in the most dramatic moments.
Ranking Factors
- Price – It’s a strong indicator of whether a player is world-class.
- Rating and stats – The higher they are, the better.
- PlayStyles – They separate the elite from the legends.

Thibaut Courtois
Version: Track Stars
In recent years, Thibaut Courtois has been unlucky with injury. He suffered a major anterior cruciate ligament at the start of the 2023/24 season, but the Belgian was back to full fitness just in time for another strong display in a Champions League final, this time against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
While his gold card is great in EAFC 25, his Track Stars version is even better. With the Rush Out PlayStyle+, ’90 Handling’ and ’91 Reflexes, the six-foot, seven-inch goalkeeper sends fear into even the best wingers in the world. There’s no other way to put it; he’s world-class for a price of just 83k.

Petr Cech
Version: Future Stars Icon
Petr Cech had an extraordinary career — from winning the Champions League with Chelsea to cementing his status as one of the greatest Premier League goalkeepers of all time. Throughout every match, he was a reliable figure, and he even had an impressive start to life on the pitch.
He moved to Chelsea at the age of 22 after impressing for two years at Rennes. Due to this, EA Sports gave him a Future Stars Icon card to celebrate his early success. It can be picked up for 210k, which seems cheap considering he has two PlayStyle+ – Deflector and Far Throw.

Gianluigi Donnarumma
Version: Centurions
We ranked Gianluigi Donnarumma as the best gold goalkeeper to use in EA Sports FC 25, but other superb cards mean he only places seventh on this list. His Track Stars card is only a minor upgrade on his base version, but it makes him more well-rounded and able to adapt to every situation.
He has the Deflector+ PlayStyle, which is great to have if you are tired of conceding goals from rebounds, whilst he’s also six feet, five inches tall. Priced at just 70k, the Euro 2020 champion with Italy is a bargain and will instantly help you concede fewer goals.

Alisson
Version: NumeroFUT
Alisson has been a key component for his club side ever since he joined Liverpool. He’s won the Champions League, Premier League and everything in between during his time at Anfield. He was given a rating of 89 for EAFC 25, and his NumeroFut version is two higher at 91.
This promotion celebrated specific player numbers, allowing Alisson to pick up a superb card. At six feet, four inches tall, he is comfortable even when there are powerful shots being directed at him. Meanwhile, he has the Deflector PlayStyle+, highlighting why he is worth 220k.

Iker Casillas
Version: Team of the Year Icon
Spain’s dominance between 2008 and 2012 was almost impossible to believe. They went down as one of, if not, the greatest international sides of all time by winning two European Championships and the World Cup; Iker Casillas played a key role in that as captain.
The legendary Spaniard featured in five TOTYs when the promotion first started, and EA celebrated that in EAFC 25 by giving him a TOTY Icon card. He could be picked up via a Squad Building Challenge (SBC) worth 445k, and that’s good value for money considering he has two PlayStyle+ – Far Reach and FootWork.

Gianluigi Buffon
Version: Base Icon
While every other Icon on this list is an improved version, Gianluigi Buffon is different; his base 91-rated card is superb and doesn’t need to be improved. It’s why he’s worth 450k, with the gaming community clearly understanding that the legendary Italian is world-class.
He has one PlayStyle+, Far Reach, whilst stats such as ’94 Diving’ and ’93 Reflexes’ allow the goalkeeper, who somehow never won the Champions League, to keep you in matches when you come under pressure. Combined with his impressive height of six feet and four inches, Buffon is a brilliant, but expensive, option.

Emiliano Martinez
Version: Team of the Year
Without Emiliano Martinez, one of the greatest football stories wouldn’t have happened. The former Arsenal star played a key role in Argentina winning the World Cup in December 2022. Most notably, he made an incredible last-ditch save in the World Cup final to deny France from stealing the win at the death, before then going on to underscore his reputation as one of the best penalty shootout goalkeepers of all time.
Martinez has continued that form since and, in January 2025, he was named in EA Sports’ TOTY. He became the first-ever Aston Villa player to be included in the process. He has two PlayStyle+, FootWork and Rush Out, but Martinez isn’t too expensive; the 94-rated card can be picked up for 320k.

Lev Yashin
Version: Future Stars Icon
When you think about the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Soviet, now Russian, goalkeeper Lev Yashin springs to mind. He wore an iconic cap during matches, which is shown in EAFC 25, and he had the nickname “Black Spider” as he dressed head to toe in black.
Yashin started playing for his club, Dynamo Moscow, from 1950 onwards – when he was just 21. Due to this, EA Sports gave him a Future Stars card which can be secured for 625k. He has two PlayStyle+, Far Reach and Cross Claimer, whilst his stats across the board are sensational.

Edwin van der Sar
Version: Centurions Icon
Finally, while not the most expensive goalkeeper on this list, Edwin van der Sar has been ranked as the best special card ‘keeper currently in EAFC 25. It’s important to remember that different gamers prefer different goalkeepers; it’s incredibly subjective as you don’t control them for most of the match.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper was given a Centurions card at the start of November 2024 — a promo that celebrated players who reached the 100 milestone for their club. The Dutchman is available for 445k and, while he only has one PlayStyle+ – Rush Out, he feels incredibly overpowered.
