Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk is “very impressed” with Mikel Arteta and the way his team plays and wants to join the club, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine winger has been linked with a move to the Premier League in January.
What’s the latest news on Mudryk?
According to Shakhtar’s deputy sporting director, Carlo Nicolini, the Ukrainian club value Mudryk at more than £85m, amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
Meanwhile, according to journalist Mirko Di Natale (via Football.London), Arsenal have made a “significant offer” in a bid to secure the Ukrainian’s services in the new year.
The Gunners were initially linked with a move for the 21-year-old at the end of the summer transfer window but missed out on a deal for the young winger with Shakhtar believing at the time that the wide man was worth £50m.
However, it looks like Arsenal will have to pay at least approximately £35m more if they’d like to secure Mudryk’s signature in January, though Jacobs believes that the eight-time Ukraine international wants to join Arteta’s side in the new year.
What has Jacobs said about Mudryk?
Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “From Mudryk’s point of view, he wants Arsenal, it’s as simple as that.
“He said that many times including directly to me in an interview that I did about two months ago, he said he can’t say no to Arsenal.
“He’s spoken directly with Zinchenko his countryman, he’s very impressed by Mikel Arteta and the style that the team play.”
Will Arsenal sign Mudryk?
It seems that if Arsenal are willing to pay the extortionate fee to secure Mudryk’s services, then they wouldn’t have to do much convincing to convince the Shakhtar man to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, they will face competition for his signature in the form of Premier League competition, with Football Insider claiming that Newcastle United are laying the groundwork for a bid for the Ukrainian.
Mudryk would likely be a fantastic signing for Arteta’s side, with the winger already notching nine goals and providing eight assists in 17 appearances for Shakhtar this season according to Transfermarkt, including one goal and two assists in an impressive Champions League display in a 4-1 win at RB Leipzig in September.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal are prepared to pay such an extortionate fee for the young Ukrainian’s services in the new year, but the club may just do that to secure more attacking additions with the club looking at a potential title challenge after being top of the Premier League during the break for the World Cup.
