Chelsea could be on the lookout for a new number-one goalkeeper in the summer, with David Raya one of the names on their shortlist, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy have both struggled for form this season, with reports emerging the Blues might enter the goalkeeper market in the summer.

Chelsea transfer news – David Raya

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea are set to challenge London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Brentford goalkeeper Raya.

Raya has entered the final 18 months of his £25,000 a week contract, with Manchester United also rumoured to be interested in the Spanish shot-stopper.

The report reads that Chelsea are unhappy with their options right now and are likely to offload one of their current goalkeepers.

Mendy started the season as Chelsea’s number-one under former boss Thomas Tuchel, before current manager Graham Potter put his trust in Kepa between the sticks.

But, both Mendy and Kepa have their place in the Chelsea squad under threat, with the Blues reportedly planning on holding a fire sale in the summer.

The Evening Standard once again are claiming Chelsea will look to sell a number of their fringe players at the end of the season, as Potter looks to balance out his squad after a hectic January window.

Chelsea splurged over £300 million on talent last month, adding a further seven players to the eight new acquisitions they brought in throughout the summer.

It’s because of this that Chelsea are being tipped to enter the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Raya to Chelsea?

Having impressed for Brentford in their one-and-a-half seasons in the Premier League so far, it’s no surprise Raya is catching the eye of top Premier League sides.

On the 27-year-old’s proposed move to Chelsea, Jacobs said: “If they go down the line of looking at a number one goalkeeper keep an eye on David Raya.

“Also keep an eye on Robert Sanchez, and even possibly Jordan Pickford.”

Who would be the best goalkeeper Chelsea could sign?

According to Transfermarkt, the trio of Raya, Pickford and Sanchez have a combined market value of £76 million, but which one would be best suited to Chelsea?

So far in the Premier League this season, no goalkeeper has made more saves than Brentford’s Raya, with the Spaniard leading the way with 86 (Premier League).

Sat in third of that list is actually Pickford himself, with the Everton shot-stopper having made 73 saves, despite Everton’s relative struggles.

However, when it comes to save percentages, Pickford doesn’t rank as highly, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Sanchez boasting the stronger record.

According to FotMob, Sanchez saves 70.6% of shots, whereas Pickford manages just 66.9% instead.

Unsurprisingly though, it’s Raya who leads the way out of this trio in that category too, boasting a 74.3% save percentage, indicating he could be the best man for the job after all.
