Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser could still leave Eddie Howe’s side at St. James’ Park before the January window closes, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The 28-year-old’s time in the north east looks like it could be coming to an end in the next few weeks.

Newcastle transfer news – Ryan Fraser
According to the i’s Mark Douglas, Fraser has been offered to Everton as Newcastle look to move the wide man on from the club this month.
The same report suggests that Lampard could be attracted to the prospect of signing the former Bournemouth winger, as he looks to recruit Premier League experience in what is now looking like a second consecutive relegation battle for the Toffees.
In December, The Telegraph reported that Newcastle would be willing to sell Fraser in January after the 26-cap Scotland international was frustrated at being unable to keep his place in Howe’s side.
Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that the Aberdeen-born star would be a “nice option” for Nathan Jones at Southampton as the Saints look to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The Magpies have already let an attacking option leave this week after Chris Wood was allowed to leave for Nottingham Forest on a loan move until the end of the season.
And the transfer insider has now been told that if a suitable offer arrives that Fraser is happy with, then he will be allowed to leave St. James’ Park before the window is out.
What has Jones said about Newcastle and Fraser?
Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think there’s a good chance still that Ryan Fraser would leave. I’ve been told before that this is going to be allowed to happen. As long as a suitable offer comes that he’s happy with, then they would let him go.”
How has Fraser performed for Newcastle this season?
Despite Newcastle’s success so far this campaign – in which they’ve reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and find themselves in the Premier League’s top four – Fraser has been unable to hit the heights when given the chance.
The “dynamo”, as he was once dubbed by Charlie Nicholas, has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Magpies this season, without providing so much as a goal or assist, as per Transfermarkt.
Given his lack of attacking output, it is unsurprising that he has only earned himself an average WhoScored rating of 6.24 for his displays in the Premier League, ranking as the squad’s 18th-highest performer out of 24 players.
And the £63k-per-week winger doesn’t compare favourably to his positional peers, ranking in just the 27th and 33rd percentile of attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for non-penalty goals and assists per 90 minutes (both 0.16) over the last 365 days, as per FBref.
Therefore, it seems as though Fraser’s time at Newcastle has reached its natural conclusion and a parting of the ways could be in the best interests of all parties involved.
