Tottenham Hotspur would struggle to offer Ivan Toney adequate game time if they were to strike a deal for the Brentford star in the future, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Antonio Conte was handed more than £150 million with which to bolster his first-team squad during the summer transfer window but could be ready to invest again soon.
What is the latest on Toney?
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.
The report adds that Spurs sent a scout to watch Toney in action against Newcastle United on Saturday, scoring from the penalty spot in the 5-1 defeat, as the north Londoners continue to assess potential centre-forward signings.
However, it is also understood that Manchester United are continuing to monitor Toney as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fabrizio Romano has previously suggested that, if a club wanted to poach the former Peterborough United striker from the capital, they may have to be ready to pay up to £50 million.
But Brentford are seemingly determined to stave off any potential interest by offering the latest member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad a new £50,000 per-week contract.

What has Jones said on a potential move?
Jones believes Toney is getting to a stage in his career where he could be considering a big move to a new club.
The journalist adds that he may not be a good fit for Conte’s team and may find his game time limited.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Toney is obviously getting to the stage where he is going to have big decisions to make over his future. Would he fit at Spurs? It’s difficult to see how he would get game time.”
Do Tottenham need Toney?
This summer saw the north Londoners splash £60 million on a deal for Everton star Richarlison as Conte bolstered his options in the final third.
The Brazilian joined the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski in competing for the three starting spots in attack, so it is easy to see why Toney may struggle at Hotspur Way
Toney – who has previously been described as a ‘colossus’ – has shown he is a potent threat, having scored 145 goals throughout his professional career and it is easy to see why the deal would appeal to Spurs.
However, for the player himself, there may be a move that would be of greater benefit to his career out there.
