£43m World Cup star now ‘gettable’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United may swoop for Cody Gakpo in the upcoming transfer window as he is an “attainable” target, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The PSV Eindhoven winger has started very well in the World Cup, scoring the opening goal for the Netherlands against Senegal in a 2-0 victory on Monday night, and he is now being linked with a move to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

What is the latest news involving Gakpo?

The Dutchman has been subject to interest from a range of different clubs since the summer, with Football London reporting back in July that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the young talent, although they now state that Manchester United are competing to complete the signing.

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo have now parted ways, given the Portugal international’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, and 90min previously reported that Gakpo could be a potential replacement.

It appears likely that the 23-year-old talent will secure a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs, however Fabrizio Romano stated on his YouTube channel that Southampton and Leeds United are also still keen to do a deal in January.

The transfer insider also claims that PSV will hold out for a fee in the region of £43m for their prized asset.

What has Jones said about Gakpo?

Jones believes that a transfer taking Gakpo to Man United has real potential, telling GIVEMESPORT: “Cody Gakpo is looking more and more like a suitable person to come in, we know that he’s gettable.

“Obviously PSV don’t want to lose him, he’s having such a good season and they’re doing really well, but he is attainable and he’s one of the most in-form players in the world right now, he’s got off to a great start with the Netherlands at the World Cup.”

Would Gakpo be a good signing for Man United?

The Man Utd target kicked off his World Cup campaign in superb fashion, not only scoring a goal, but displaying his versatility by playing in an attacking midfield role, registering a SofaScore rating of 7.8, the highest figure achieved by any outfield player.

As such, the starlet could use the remainder of the Qatar tournament as a springboard to secure a big move in the January transfer window, however his Eredivisie performances also stand him in good stead, with 21 goal contributions in just 14 appearances so far.

Hailed as “outstanding” by journalist Josh Bunting, Gakpo is ready to take the next big step in his career, and Erik ten Hag should move swiftly to secure his services, particularly considering that the rumoured £43.5m fee is a relatively small figure, given the vast potential that he possesses.
