£43k-a-week star now ‘fed up’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Sweden winger Anthony Elanga has “become a bit fed up” in Erik ten Hag’s squad at Old Trafford amid links of a loan move to Everton, journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport.

The 20-year-old is yet to become a regular for the Red Devils heading into the January transfer window.

Man Utd transfer news – Anthony Elanga

According to The Athletic, Everton are interested in a loan move for Elanga ahead of the winter transfer window, with the club’s financial restraints meaning that the Toffees cannot complete a permanent deal in the current climate.

The nine-time Sweden international is battling for his spot in United’s front three at the time of writing but is now behind Antony, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho for a regular place in the side.

Journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport at the beginning of the campaign that the 44-time Manchester United starlet would have to win over ten Hag after having been used sparingly by the Dutchman at the start of the season.

And now Phillips has suggested that Elanga is assessing his options ahead of the next couple of transfer windows, amid rumours of potential loan interest from Everton.

What has Phillips said about Elanga’s future?

When asked about what could lie ahead for Elanga, Phillips told GiveMeSport: “Frank Lampard has been wanting attacking options since the summer. He was disappointed that they didn’t get on top of that and believes they’ve stayed quite short-handed in that position.

“Elanga has become a bit fed up at United. He’s said to be assessing his options for the next couple of windows.”

How has Elanga performed this season?

It comes as no shock that Elanga has been unable to set the world alight in the 497 minutes he has had on the pitch across 15 appearances for United this season, having produced just one assist across the Premier League, Carabao Cup and Europa League, according to Transfermarkt.

The £43k-per-week winger’s confidence could well have been knocked at Old Trafford this campaign and an average WhoScored rating of 6.34 for his performances in the Premier League would suggest that the player needs a move away from the club, with only two players in the Red Devils squad having a lower average score than him.

With ten Hag actively looking to add a forward to his squad in January, it seems unlikely that Elanga’s immediate future lies with the Manchester giants and therefore a loan move away and regular football at Everton could be just what the young winger needs to kickstart his Premier League career.
