Rangers manager Michael Beale could get off to a ‘great start’ to life in the Ibrox dugout if Connor Goldson is available to play, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined through injury for several months but is ahead of schedule in his recovery programme and is in contention to feature against Hibernian.
Rangers injury news – Connor Goldson
Goldson picked up a muscular problem in Rangers’ Champions League defeat at the hands of Liverpool back in October and was initially expected to be sidelined for quite some time.
However, Beale has now disclosed that the centre-back could be available for Rangers’ first game after the mid-season pause for the World Cup when Hibs visit Ibrox on Thursday.
“If everything goes to plan, I’ll have four options and not two for Thursday night. It’ll just be a case of where they are physically,” revealed the English tactician (via the Scottish Sun).

“The plan is that Ben Davies and Connor will return to training in the next 24 to 48 hours, which will be hugely important to the group. Connor Goldson is ahead of schedule.”
Beale will take charge of his first Rangers game in midweek after replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst and having Goldson, who earns £37,000-per-week, to call upon would be a big boost.
What has Jones said about Goldson?
Rangers are currently sitting nine points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings and will be desperate to secure a victory tomorrow evening.

And Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Goldson’s availability would be ‘really, really good news’ for the Glasgow giants and Beale.
He said: “This would be really, really good news and a great start for Beale too, if he could have him available.”
How big a loss has Goldson been?
In Goldson’s absence through his hamstring injury, Rangers have lost on two occasions, twice in the Champions League and once in the Scottish Premiership to St Johnstone.
Draws against Livingston and St Mirren while on league duty also occurred, leading to the dismissal of Van Bronckhorst.
As per WhoScored, Goldson has won 2.9 aerial duels while making 2.2 tackles, one interception, 2.8 clearances, and 0.4 blocks per league game, placing him in the top three for each metric when compared to his teammates.
It’s clear that Goldson’s presence at the heart of defence has been missed by Rangers, and his return to action would be warmly welcomed by everyone associated with the club.
