Manchester United’s potential move to sign Ajax and Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus for Erik ten Hag’s squad at Old Trafford “fits a lot of the boxes”, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Red Devils are looking to bolster their attacking options following the termination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract in November, after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
Man Utd transfer news – Mohammed Kudus
According to 90min, Manchester United are currently exploring a deal to sign Kudus, after ten Hag publicly stated his desire to bring in another forward option to the club this month.
The Red Devils have already secured the loan signing of Burnley striker Wout Weghorst for the remainder of the campaign but could look to the Ghanian as an alternative option to the Dutchman up top.
As per The Independent, Everton previously failed with a £15m approach for the Ajax starlet on deadline day of the 2022 summer window, with the reigning Eredivisie champions adamant that he was not to be sold last time out.
However, The Athletic now reports that the forward is eager to leave the Amsterdam side, but he will not be sold for a fee of less than £35m this month.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has recently told GiveMeSport that the Premier League side will have to submit a “crazy bid” to lure Ajax into selling Kudus during the winter transfer window but Jones believes that he is a player that would tick a lot of boxes for ten Hag at Old Trafford.
What has Jones said about Man Utd and Kudus?
When asked about the links between Man United and Kudus, Jones told GiveMeSport: “The Kudus links keep coming back. And in line with the sort of player ten Hag has looked for so far, it fits a lot of the boxes that are going to be ticked along the way.”
Would Kudus be a good signing for Man Utd?
With the Red Devils desperate for attacking additions, Kudus would look to be the ideal signing at Old Trafford, having worked with ten Hag before during the pair’s partnership at Ajax.
The 22-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Dutch giants this season, hitting the back of the net ten times and providing two assists having been deployed in an attacking midfield and centre-forward role, according to Transfermarkt.
The Accra-born “star-boy” – as he has been dubbed by journalist Lawrence Baidoo – also impressed during his three appearances at the World Cup in November/December, scoring two goals in Qatar, according to the same stats provider.
An average WhoScored rating of 7.53 for his performances on the world’s biggest stage ranked the versatile attack-minded player as the nation’s top-performing player in the Middle East, in a tournament which may have alerted some of Europe’s elite clubs to his talents.
Having worked under ten Hag before and United’s desire for another forward, it seems like this is a deal that would make a lot of sense for both parties this month, but whether a deal can get over the line remains to be seen.
