183-goal star would be a ‘good signing’ at Villa Park

Aston Villa target Gareth Bale would be a “good signing” for the club, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Bale is currently looking for a new club as his contract at Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the month.

What’s the latest news involving Bale?

The 32-year-old does not appear to be short of options as three Premier League clubs have shown an interest in him.

That is according to The Guardian, who have claimed that Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa are all monitoring the winger.

Meanwhile, a return to his hometown club Cardiff City has also been mooted.

What has Jones said about Bale potentially joining Villa?

Jones thinks that Bale may be more tempted by a return to Tottenham or a move back to Cardiff for sentimental reasons, but he believes the Welshman would be a good addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad if Villa can lure him to the Midlands.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The only thing I’d say is there’s not that sentiment value there that we seem to get the impression he’s looking for. Gareth Bale is at his best when there’s passion involved, and when he genuinely cares about it.

“His Wales performances and his body language and everything is so different than from when he was at Real Madrid. And I know he says that’s not all him, and it was the club and the way he was treated, but it’s got to be on him too because we can see how he’s performing. So, I think it’d be a good signing.”

Should Villa step up their interest in Bale?

Bale’s quality cannot be questioned, having won the Champions League on five occasions, while he has scored 183 goals at club level in his career, and picked up 105 caps for Wales, recently helped them qualify for their first World Cup since 1958.

However, he has struggled with various fitness issues in recent years, and he was restricted to just seven appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid last term.

With this in mind, there must be concerns about whether his body is capable of holding up for an entire season anymore.

If Villa are confident that he can stay fit, then Bale could be a fine addition to their ranks, given his experience at the highest level.

Yet, should his injury woes of the last few years continue, it could be a mistake to bring him in as he will not be able to bring much to the team if he is constantly sidelined.
