Manchester United could look at Lyon striker Moussa Dembele after missing out on Cody Gakpo to Liverpool, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, and Jones can see him becoming a target for the Red Devils in the upcoming window.
Man United transfer news
Gakpo was on United’s shortlist heading into January, with the reliable Fabrizio Romano recently telling GMS that there had been advanced negotiations between the two parties.
However, in an incredible twist, the Dutchman will now join Liverpool after the Merseyside club agreed a £44.3m deal with PSV Eindhoven, as reported by BBC Sport.
United will now have to look at other forward options like Dembele, who was reportedly a target for the Manchester outfit when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still manager.
According to the MailOnline, United considered signing the Frenchman in the summer of 2019 but ended up prioritising other positions instead.

What has Dean Jones said about Moussa Dembele and Man United?
Jones has not ruled out United looking at Dembele again after missing out on Gakpo.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “They’ve still got other players on the radar. I think Moussa Dembele is a good one in terms of value and availability, so they might look at that again. But there are others, too.”

Moussa Dembele’s stats
Dembele has been quite prolific for Lyon, scoring 69 goals in 157 appearances, as per Transfermarkt. Last season, he was really efficient, registering 21 times in 30 Ligue 1 outings.
His record at Celtic was also impressive, with the former France U21 international finding the back of the net on 51 occasions. In total, he has scored 139 senior goals across his spells with the Bhoys, Lyon and Fulham.
Dembele also had a short stint on loan at Atletico Madrid, but he failed to register during his time there. Nevertheless, he could still be a shrewd addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad.
As Jones alluded to, the former Celtic man could be available next month and for a good price. His contract expires at the end of the season, which means Lyon could decide to sell him to avoid losing the striker for nothing next summer.
All in all, then, United and Ten Hag could end up getting a bargain with Dembele and some much-needed firepower after terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract at Old Trafford.
