Back in Mainz after a loan spell with Karlsruher SC, Paul Nebel has signed a contract extension.

Mainz 05 have announced that attacking midfielder Paul Nebel has signed a new contract with the club.

The 21-year-old, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Karlsruher SC, has penned a deal with the Zero Fivers that runs until 2027.

“We are delighted that Paul Nebel will be part of our professional squad again next season,” said Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel.

“He has made a name for himself in the 2. Bundesliga over the past two years with strong performances, and the loan deal had exactly the desired effect for us.

“He now returns to us as an experienced professional. As a technically strong, lively and very flexible attacking player, as well as an open, communicative type, he will be an asset to our squad.”

Nebel, who scored five goals and added nine assists in 33 games in the 2. Bundesliga last season, said:

“The two years at Karlsruher SC have really helped me personally and I am very grateful for that time. But now I’m really looking forward to being back in Mainz. It feels like coming home, but at the same time it’s a new start for me and the next step in my development. I can hardly wait to play in the MEWA ARENA again and give my all for Mainz 05.”
