Yann Sommer will not leave Borussia Mönchengladbach in the winter

Speaking to RP, Roland Virkus stated that Borussia Mönchengladbach have informed Bayern Munich that Yann Sommer will not leave the club this summer.

After Gladbach’s friendly against Oldenburg, Virkus said: “We will not be giving up Yann Sommer. That’s what we told Bayern as well.” Daniel Farke also spoke on the matter after Gladbach’s 2-0 win: “It is planned that he will be used in the last two friendlies.” Gladbach play Arminia Bielefeld on Wednesday and St Pauli on Saturday.

According to RP information, Gladbach never intended to sell Sommer in the winter, Bayern thought they had a chance to sign Sommer due to his expiring contract. Additionally, Gladbach’s inability to sign a replacement with Jonas Omlin and Phillip Köhn both unable to leave their clubs in the winter also contributed to Sommer needing to fulfil his current contract.

Sommer has a contract extension offer on the table at Gladbach. For any sort of move, Gladbach would need to receive a  big offer for Sommer if he is to leave in the winter. Sky Germany added that Sommer can leave if conditions are met, meaning the door is not 100% closed.

Bayern’s search for a Manuel Neuer replacement continues, who injured himself in a skiing accident. Alexander Nübel chances of having his loan cut short at Monaco are low and any other replacements that Bayern looked at proved to be too expensive.
