Xabi Alonso hails ‘special’ Real Madrid youngster

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has this weekend spoken publicly on his appreciation for the talents of Arda Güler.

This comes ahead of what could prove to be a breakout campaign for the young Turk in Spain’s capital.

After a couple of at times underwhelming seasons on the books of Real Madrid, Güler has been tipped to play a more prominent role in 2025/26.

The 20-year-old is held in high regard by the new man on the touchline at the Santiago Bernabéu, who appreciates Güler for his technical excellence and poise in possession.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup meeting with Pachuca on Sunday, Xabi Alonso himself, in turn, was asked for his take on Güler’s abilities.

And the Spanish tactician made use of the opportunity to heap praise on the midfielder, in explaining:

“I want Arda Güler to be close to the ball. He’s a special player and always helps the team play. He has an impact.”
