Wolves ‘aim’ to make multiple signings for Lopetegui at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui could welcome up to six new signings in the January window, transfer insider Dean Jones believes.

The ex-Real Madrid and Sevilla manager has already made his first signing in charge, bringing Matheus Cunha to the club from Atletico Madrid.

What’s the latest news involving Lopetegui and Wolves?

Having been forced to wait for their man, Wolves eventually announced Lopetegui as their new boss just before the World Cup break. Taking the Midlands outfit to the League Cup quarter-finals in his first game in charge, Lopetegui’s attentions will now switch towards guiding Wolves out of the Premier League drop zone.

Well into their fifth season back in the Premier League, Wolves are facing a return to the second tier next season unless they can turn their fortunes around. After winning just two of their 15 outings before the mid-season World Cup break, Lopetegui faces an uphill battle if he’s to guide Wolves to safety this season.

Sacked by Sevilla earlier in the campaign, Lopetegui took the Wolves job on after assurances the club will spend in the window, with a report in The Times suggesting up to six new players could enter the Molineux doors throughout January.

Of course, the addition of Brazillian international Cunha has already got their shopping spree up and running, as the forward joins Wolves on an initial loan deal from Atletico. A report from BBC Sport suggests Cunha, who has struggled for form since arriving in Madrid, will sign a four-year deal worth £35 million with Wolves at the end of the season.

But with the January window edging ever closer, the assumption is that Wolves will continue to be busy, as Lopetegui looks to shape a side capable of mounting a survival bid.

What has Jones said about Lopetegui and Wolves?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones reaffirmed the message that Wolves will be busy in January, hinting that the Midlands-based outfit could spend big.

“Yeah, Lopetegui will get the backing,” Jones told GMS.

“Without it he won’t be able to turn it around. The aim is for Lopetegui to get six signings in January.

“That’s what is being briefed at the moment, but let’s see what he actually ends up getting.”

Who else could Lopetegui bring in at Wolves?

As the January window approaches, the rumour mill surrounding potential arrivals continues to gather pace.

One man Wolves could look to lure to Molineux is wantaway Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who according to the Manchester Evening News has been made available for transfer. A report in the Express & Star has linked Wan-Bissaka to Wolves ahead of the January window.

Elsewhere, ex-Spain international Isco, who is set to leave Sevilla as a free agent, is also being mooted as a potential signing, but he is not believed to be the main target for Wolves right now, as per The Athletic.
