Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an explanation for his decision to leave Raúl Asencio out of his starting line-up to face Girona.
Real are of course fresh off securing a dominant return to winning ways.
After being condemned to defeat at the hands of Athletic Club during the week, Los Blancos made the trip to Catalunya, for a La Liga meeting with the aforementioned Girona.
And, when all was said and done, the evening’s visitors emerged from the Estadi Montilivi on the right side of a 3-0 result.
The aforementioned Raúl Asencio, for his part, was forced to watch on from the sidelines en route to as much, introduced only as a late substitute with the result already secured.
This brought to an end a run of four straight starts for the youngster, with Aurélien Tchouaméni having stepped in in his place on Saturday.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, the reasoning behind his call to shake things up at the back was in turn put to Real Madrid’s headmaster.
And Ancelotti went on to explain:
“Tchouaméni at centre-back? Just a short term choice. Asencio was a bit tired, only that. He’s very reliable, he showed his quality.”
