Manchester United were interested in signing the Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez during the summer transfer window.
According to a report from The Mirror, they wanted to sign the player on deadline day, but they had to abandon the pursuit of the South American because of his wage demands. The player was reportedly demanding wages of around £200,000-a-week.
Man United wanted a cheaper option than Emiliano Martinez
Manchester United have already spent substantially, and they were not willing to commit that kind of money on the player. The South American is a quality player, and he has proven himself for club and country. He has been labelled as an “amazing” goalkeeper by Harry Kane in the past.
There is no doubt that he would’ve been an exceptional acquisition for Manchester United. They need a quality goalkeeper, especially with the way Andre Onana and Altay bayindir have performed.
Manchester United decided to move for the Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The 23-year-old is a talented young goalkeeper with a bright future, and he will be expected to hold down a regular starting spot at Old Trafford now. It will be interesting to see if he can make an instant impact and establish himself as a key player for the club.
Manchester United need a quality goalkeeper if they are serious about fighting for this season. They will look to get back into the UEFA Champions League as well.
Martinez will be disappointed

Meanwhile, the experienced goalkeeper will be disappointed to miss out on a big move this summer. There is no doubt that he deserves to play at the highest level. The move to Manchester United would have been an excellent opportunity for him. He has won major trophies with his country, and he will look to win trophies at the club level now. Joining a big club would have been ideal.
