The full extent of Jamal Musiala’s injury has now been revealed after he was taken to hospital during Bayern Munich’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-final on Saturday night. The 22-year-old came off worse in a 50-50 challenge with Gianluigi Donnarumma just before half-time.
Replays of the incident were not shown on the big screens at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but players on the pitch were visibly shaken by the aftermath. Musiala’s ankle appeared to twist far beyond its natural range, prompting immediate concern. The Italian goalkeeper has since faced criticism from Bayern’s captain Manuel Neuer, while manager Vincent Kompany and sporting director Max Eberl both voiced their concern over the midfielder’s condition during post-match press conferences.
Unfortunately, fresh reports don’t present any hope of a quick recovery either, with details of Musiala’s injuries now emerging, along with an early indication of how long he could be sidelined after being stretchered off the field.

Musiala, who is one of the best midfielders in the world already, is reported to have suffered a broken left fibula, as well as having damaged several ligaments in his leg and foot. As reported by German outlet BILD, as per Fabrizio Romano, this will likely rule him out for four to five months, which could mean his next game isn’t until December 6 against VfB Stuttgart.
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said his “blood boils” after seeing an integral part of his plans ruled out once again, but did add, as per GOAL: “The overwhelming feeling is that I hope it’s not as bad as it looks, and that he will get through this one.”
Courtesy of their 2-0 defeat, the Bundesliga champions will head back home early after being among the highest-earners at the revamped Club World Cup so far. With Bayer Leverkusen, their closest rivals in recent years, not participating, the rest will be much-needed ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, though they will wish they had Musiala in their ranks.
