Bayer Leverkusen travel to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday evening and Xabi Alonso is expecting a difficult game against the Hessen club, who are on course for a return to UEFA Champions League football.
Speaking in Friday’s press conference, Alonso said: “We will face top opponents with a good coach and high individual and collective quality. The match in the Hinrunde was very intense and we are expecting another tough game.” Leverkusen won the reverse fixture 2-1 with goals from Robert Andrich and Victor Boniface after Omar Marmoush had opened the scoring for Eintracht.
“We have to be flexible and act quickly to have the right approach to the difficult phases of the game,” added Alonso.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s strengths
No team has scored more counter-attacking goals than Eintracht, something which Alonso noted in his presser when questioned on their tactical versatility: “They can play with a back three of a back four. In addition, they are very good in transition.”
