Köln’s winless run away from home extended to 16 games after their 1-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening.

René Wagner believed his Köln side showed plenty of positives despite the defeat in Frankfurt extended his club’s winless run away from home to 16 games. The new Germany international Younes Ebnoutalib scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute.
“After the first half, we wanted to remain courageous,” Wagner started his verdict in his post-match interview. “We came out strong, weathered a period of sustained pressure from Eintracht well, and countered their attacks effectively. I believe that with one or two better transitions, we could have been more effective in defending.”
After their derby delight against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the latest setback could see the pressure mount on the coach who was first hired as an interim in March. Wagner’s men will now have back-to-back home games against Schalke and Union Berlin in Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
“Frankfurt possesses incredible quality, as seen with their goal. The assist was unbelievable. Towards the end, we applied pressure again in the final third. But our final pass wasn’t accurate enough. Nevertheless, it was a good away game, with a disappointing result. We deserved at least a point.” the 38-year-old coach concluded.
