A relieved Sandro Wagner beamed with delight in his post-match press conference after his FC Augsburg side defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-1 this afternoon at the WWK Arena.
“We’re obviously happy about the deserved win. We set ourselves high goals and have learned a lot as a group over the past few days and weeks.
“We wanted to work hard off the ball today and attack with a good structure. We had a lot of players on the pitch, and that must continue to be our approach; it was a lot of fun.
In addition, two of our own players rewarded themselves with goals, which shows our clear direction. I think it was an all-round successful afternoon for us,” said Wagner.
Afforded a rare start in the Függerstadter’s reshuffled pack, Noah-Kai Banks was delighted to score his first German top-flight goal and help his side to victory.
“I’m still coming to terms with the fact that I could help the team with my first Bundesliga goal. We were all extremely motivated and knew exactly how important this game was.
“The quality in the team has always been there, and today we brought it onto the pitch as well. It was a special afternoon for me. My whole family was there, even my grandma for the first time,” he said.
