Villarreal targeting move for Axel Disasi

Villarreal have made contact with Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as they look to sign him this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The French international’s future at Stamford Bridge is increasingly uncertain at the moment after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Disasi, who joined Chelsea from Monaco for €45 million in August 2023, has fallen down the pecking order and is expected to depart this summer.

Axel Disasi arrived at Chelsea amid high expectations following an impressive spell at Monaco. His debut season at Stamford Bridge saw him make 44 appearances across all competitions.

However, the arrival of new defensive signings and tactical changes under Maresca have seen him reduced to a bit-part player.

While Aston Villa are reportedly still keen on making his move permanent, and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation, Villarreal have now made the most concrete approach for Disasi.

Chelsea are aiming to recoup around €30 million by parting ways with Disasi as they continue their spending spree.

The Blues would ideally prefer a permanent deal, but a loan with an obligation to buy could also suffice.

Villarreal’s search for defensive reinforcement is hardly surprising given they just parted ways with Eric Bailey and Raul Albiol.

The Yellow Submarines finished fifth in La Liga last season and are set for a return to the Champions League which could aid their pursuit of Disasi.

Marcelino’s side have already completed the acquisition of Alberto Moleiro from Las Palmas, and further acquisitions are expected.
