Victor Osimhen levels record in Napoli’s Sampdoria win

Napoli picked up a 2-0 win over relegation strugglers Sampdoria on Sunday to maintain a hold over the top of the Serie A table.

Tomas Rincon’s first half sending did help the Partenopei but Victor Osimhen had opened the scoring for his side before the South American’s early bath. Eljif Elmas made it 2-0 from the spot in the second half after Ronaldo Vieira had handled the ball.

It was another impressive performance from Osimhen, who now has ten Serie A goals in his bag so far. OptaPaolo have stated that the Nigerian is only the second African player in Serie A history to have scored ten or more goals in three different league campaigns in the Italian top flight. George Weah last did it with Milan back in the mid-1990s.

The centre-forward has also racked up three assists in the season and has not been held back by injuries, something which was an issue for him in the last two campaigns. Everything suggests that things are looking very bright for the ex-Lille man.
