TSG confirm another injury setback for captain Hübner

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim confirmed that squad skipper Benjamin Hübner will once again be sidelined indefinitely on Wednesday.

The middle son of former 1. FC Kaiserlautern striker and Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hübner has been hit with another injury setback. On Wednesday, TSG Hoffenheim revealed that their squad captain Benjamin Hübner will be out “until further notice” after incurring an ankle injury in Sunday’s Pokal win over SV Rödinghausen.

The 33-year-old Hübner’s long struggle with a torn ligament left him sidelined for the better part of 18 months. The veteran’s clear tendency towards passing and tackling errors in appearances during last year’s “Hin-Runde” left many wondering whether or not it was time for him to call it a career.

Surprisingly enough, new Kraichgauer trainer André Breitenreiter opted to allow Hübner to maintain his captain’s armband even after a weak pre-season during which the skipper again didn’t seem to be in good form. The Sinsheimer head-coach may be forced to reconsider this decision if the latest injury proves serious.

Hoffenheim’s acquisition of two extra central defenders to potentially serve alongside the likes of Ozan Kabak, Stefan Posch, and Kevin Vogt in Breitenreiter’s likely back-three should be concluded this week. It no loner appears as if there is a starting place for the skipper even if he can regain fitness.
