True Meaning Behind Kevin Owens’ Unique Shirt at WWE Royal Rumble Revealed

Kevin Owens brought entertainment to WWE SmackDown at the beginning of January 2025 and then again at the Royal Rumble, wearing a parody T-shirt belonging to the late Dusty Rhodes, the father of current champion Cody Rhodes.

KO shocked the crowd when he appeared on stage wearing a t-shirt that seemed to be a throwback to a shirt Cody Rhodes’ father once wore back during his wrestling days. The two fighters, Owens and Cody, are currently having a very public feud, which the former has seemingly taken to the next level with this stunt.

‘The Canadian dream. Son of a security systems technician’

The shirt Owens came out with read “The Canadian Dream” and underneath read “son of a security systems technician.” He entered the limelight to large applause and laughter before cracking a smile himself, evidently quite proud of his joke. It’s a reference to a famous old photo of a similar t-shirt worn by none other than Dusty Rhodes, the father of Cody, as well as Dustin Rhodes. The original photo shows Dusty in his prime, during a battle where he sustained cuts on his face, with blood running down the right side of his face. The t-shirt read: “The American Dream. Son of a plumber.”

The American Dream often reinforces the idea that anyone can reach any height if they work hard enough, supporting old American ideas of meritocracy. Other countries, such as Canada in this case, have been known to mock this idea by showing the barriers that can stop those born into tough circumstances from actually reaching those goals. This is the point that Kevin Owens is potentially getting at, although it could simply be a cheap rip-off of a legendary photo, poking fun at Dusty Rhodes.

Fans were already asking online way before the Royal Rumble if the shirt is going to be put on the WWE store, with one fan suggesting it’ll “move quick” if it does. The official WWE shop X account replied to the post from a fan, declaring: ”It could be! Send me a DM, and I’ll see what I can do to make this @FightOwensFight shirt happen!”
