Tottenham are becoming “more confident” that Harry Kane will commit his future to the club due to Antonio Conte and being in the Champions League, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
The England captain has entered the final two years of his contract in north London, which has raised doubts over his future, although Crook reckons that Spurs are growing in belief that Kane will sign an extension.
What’s the latest news involving Kane?
Despite concerns over Kane’s contract situation, the 29-year-old finds himself in a much better frame of mind than this time 12 months ago.
Last summer, the £81m-rated striker expressed his desire to leave and was involved in an intense transfer saga with Manchester City, which ultimately ended in Kane staying with his boyhood club.
Tottenham also find themselves in a far healthier position, with one of the top managers in the world in their dugout, while their fourth place finish means they’re back in Europe’s elite competition, compared to last season when they were playing in the Europa Conference League.
And Crook reckons the Conte and Champions League factors have left the club growing in confidence that Kane will end all speculation and extend his current £200,000 per-week deal.
What did Crook say about Kane?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they are more confident because of Antonio Conte and the fact they’re back in the Champions League.”
How important is Kane to Tottenham?
Despite Kane enduring a dreadful start to last season, which ultimately allowed Heung-Min Son to outscore him in the Premier League for the first time ever, he proved crucial in their fourth place finish.
Overall, he ended up scoring 17 goals and laying on nine assists, with 24 of his goal involvements coming in his final 24 appearances, which included five goals in his final five top-flight outings.
Therefore, while Son is arguably challenging Kane as the club’s best player, Kane’s importance to Conte moving forward is still huge, highlighting why Spurs are so desperate for him to stay long-term.
