Thomas Tuchel discusses his first week at Bayern Munich and his approach

Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s clash against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening, Thomas Tuchel discussed the positive energy at the club and personnel situation ahead of the Klassiker.

Tuchel on the personnel situation…

“We can draw on the full squad, expect for Mathys Tel, Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Neuer. Jamal Musiala trained fully today and we will do another session tomorrow.”

Tuchel on his approach…

“We need a good mix that gives the team a feeling that no major measures or changes are needed. We don’t be able to do that tomorrow if we dim it all the way down. When we’re in the stadium, it’s something special. It’s going to be a hot match, we’ll be ready emotionally.”

Tuchel on his Borussia Dortmund past…

“I think it’s better if we leave it alone. It makes little sense to publicly stir up the dregs. The mood is very forgiving and everyone sees it that way. When I played with PSG in Dortmund, I got hugs from a lot of people and hugged a lot of people too. There were also many regrets that things came to an end but it’s been too long to open a drawer. It doesn’t do anyone justice.”

Tuchel on Leroy Sané…

“It would be unfair if we take Leroy out. It is the desire that we push as many as possible to their performance limit but first and foremost, he is a player himself. When you sign for a club like Bayern Munich, it takes a mental strength and exceptional sportsmanship. The majority is always up to the player, everyone wanted to show themselves. That’s normal when a new coach comes.”

Tuchel on his first week as Bayern Munich head coach…

“Work, eat, sleep, repeat was the program. Training wise is feels like we’ve had a day. With meetings, scouting opponents, talking, it felt like a month’s work. I was pretty tired in the evening but you want to soak up as much as possible. It’s very demanding but at the same time, the best there is. I’m very grateful to be given the confidence at such a level.”

Bayern Munich host Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena in the Klassiker on Saturday evening. Just one point separates the two teams with the Rekordmeister looking to regain top spot with just nine games remaining. Whomever wins on Saturday will have a big say in where the Meisterschale ends up come May.

As for Borussia Dortmund, Edin Terzic confirmed that up to six players could return against Bayern Munich with Emre Can back from suspension, Gregor Kobel and Julian Brandt both fit again, Youssoufa Moukoko and Karim Adeyemi returning to training whilst Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will also face a late fitness test ahead of Saturday’s clash.
