The stats behind Paulo Dybala’s impressive season with Roma

As Roma grabbed a vital 2-0 win over Empoli, it proved to be another glittering day out for Paulo Dybala. He grabbed two assists, helping the Giallorossi score twice in the first five minutes through his excellently taken corners.

It was quite emblematic of Roma’s attack, which has been heavily reliant on La Joya’s performances this season. In fact, as per Opta, the Argentine became the first Serie A player to assist twice in the first six minutes of a game since the 2004/05 campaign.

The 29-year-old now has seven goals and as many assists in the Serie A and in all competitions, he has contributed to 17 goals. In an attack which has had a misfiring Tammy Abraham, a Lorenzo Pellegrini who is in and out of the team and a Nicolo Zaniolo who has barely had an impact, La Joya has sparkled.

A case can be made of the fact that he has carried their attack with his creativity and goals. As per FBref, only Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have a better goals per 90 minutes tally and when it comes to goals plus assists per 90 minutes, only the two African stars and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have a higher contributed rate per 90 minutes.

For someone who has had fitness issues this season and for some time now, the campaign has been a very impressive one for Dybala.
