“That’s the aim” – Chelsea’s Reece James sets target for 2024/25 season

Reece James returned to action for Chelsea on Saturday in the Blues’ 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest and following the victory, the defender has set the London club a huge target for the 2024/25 season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team have improved in recent weeks and are pushing for the Europa League spots in the Premier League with just two games remaining in their campaign. Chelsea currently sit seventh in the standings, level on points with Newcastle for the final spot in the Europa League, with the Magpies having a superior goal difference.

This competition will provide the West London club with another route into the Champions League for the 2025/26 season and that is the aim for the Blues according to their captain, Reece James.

Speaking to Chelsea TV after the win at Nottingham Forest, the defender stated that the Premier League giants must be back in the Champions League.

“We’re learning every day,” James said via The Standard. “We’re still young and during the season we’ve had a few off days, but on the whole, we’ve improved and we’re coming strong towards the end of the season.

“Europe is one of the highest levels in club football and we’re one of the biggest clubs in club football, so we want to be pushing each season to be knocking on the door for the Champions League. That’s the aim.”

Champions League return tough for Chelsea

With the competition in the Premier League very high, a return to the Champions League will be tough for Chelsea.

Clubs such as Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are ahead of the Blues and there is no guarantee that their results over recent weeks correlate with improvement as many of the teams they have played are in bad form.

However, there is a lot of potential within the London club’s squad and a few wise additions over the summer could take them to the next level and help them compete with the clubs above them more regularly.
