Ten Hag ‘absolutely wants’ £250k-a-week star at Old Trafford – GiveMeSport

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag may ‘absolutely like’ to secure the loan signing of Atlético Madrid and Portugal forward Joao Félix at Old Trafford this month, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils are looking at attacking additions after the termination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract in November, following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Man Utd transfer news – Joao Félix

Back in November, it was confirmed that the Glazers family had decided to put Manchester United up for sale, potentially ending what to date has been a 17-year partnership with the Old Trafford outfit.

Naturally, this led to fears that the club may not be particularly active in future transfer markets with the family unlikely to want to spend a great deal of money as they look to sell the Manchester club in the near future.

This could be something that affects the club’s move for Joao Félix, with Sky Sports News reporting that a move for Félix is now off the agenda, with the Red Devils unable to agree on a loan fee with the La Liga side.

Meanwhile, according to Relovo, the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for the £250k-per-week star to move to Old Trafford and has met with Atlético CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin to try and force through a move.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that a transfer to United for the former £113m signing cannot be ruled out, and Jacobs has now hinted that Félix is a player that ten Hag would like to see at the club this season.

What has Jacobs said about Man Utd and Félix?

When speaking about the Glazers’ impact on the potential signing of Félix, Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “We might see some kind of exit strategy for the Glazers and therefore in the January window, they may not want to overspend.

“Chucking away a big loan fee and chucking away a load of wages and then getting nothing really out of it, if they can’t negotiate an option to buy or an obligation to buy, isn’t necessarily going to satisfy the Glazers on the financial side, even if it’s a signing that ten Hag would absolutely like.”

Will Man Utd sign Félix?

It is believed that United could face competition from both Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for Félix’s signature this month, suggesting that ten Hag would have to sell his vision for the forward to secure the signing of the 28-cap Portugal international.

However, after a deal with Atlético seems to have reached a stalemate, the Red Devils could turn to other forward options this winter, including that of Borussia Monchengladbach and France striker Marcus Thuram and Eintracht Frankfurt and Les Bleus teammate Randal Kolo Muani.

Therefore, it looks as though United’s pursuit of Félix may have reached a critical stage as the club look to recruit at least another forward heading into the second half of the campaign.
