Talks over William Saliba contract extension at Arsenal “advancing”

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that talks between William Saliba (22) and Arsenal over a contract extension are “advancing.”

Saliba arrived at Arsenal from Saint-Étienne for €30m back in the summer of 2019, and after loan spells at OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille, has now established himself as a first-team player in Mikel Arteta’s back-line. However, the France international now has just one year remaining on his deal with the Gunners and therefore talks over an extension are underway.

The negotiations come after a report from RMC Sport revealed that three major clubs had enquired about a potential summer transfer. However, it is clear that Arsenal wish to retain their French centre-back. Romano now reports that talks are advancing and a new round of talks will take place in the next few hours. The Italian journalist reports that all parties are confident of reaching an agreement, and whilst no deal has yet been concluded, the two camps are “getting closer” to extending the current contract.
