Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign striker Brian Brobbey from Ajax in a deal worth around €20 million plus €5 million in add-ons, according to Telegraaf.
Brobbey has agreed a five-year contract, bringing both youth and experience to bolster Sunderland’s frontline on their return to the top flight.
Talks between Sunderland and Ajax kicked off over the weekend and have moved swiftly as the transfer window nears its end.
Brobbey will fill the gap left by the returning Chelsea loanee Marc Guiu, whose stint at Sunderland was ended prematurely.
The 23-year-old forward has an impressive spell in the Eredivisie, and despite some criticisms regarding consistency, he is regarded as a player with high potential.
Brobbey was noticeably absent from Ajax’s squad for their recent Eredivisie fixture against Volendam, giving a clear indication that his exit was imminent.
Ajax reportedly turned down an approach from Fulham, as they preferred a permanent sale over a loan agreement.
Brobbey’s arrival continues what has been a busy summer at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland having made 13 new signings already.
Regis Le Bris’ side have also agreed a deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida and are well on course to spend the most money of any Premier League team outside the top six.
Sunderland’s summer spree so far has paid early dividends, as they sit on six points from three matches, following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Brentford.
The Black Cats will be aiming to pick up consecutive victories after the international break on their visit to Selhurst Park to face off against Crystal Palace.
