It wasn’t unexpected that Stade Rennais would look to recruit a goalkeeper in the January transfer window but what was a surprise was how quickly a move for RC Lens’ Brice Samba (30) took form. As per L’Équipe, an agreement in principle has already been reached with Les Sang et Or and the France international is therefore nearing a move to Brittany.
His arrival, naturally, as repercussions for Steve Mandanda (39). The former France international was forced out of Olympique de Marseille when Jorge Sampaoli arrived at the club and the same looks to be happening again. The Argentine was hired earlier this season as a replacement for Julien Stéphan.
However, according to a report from L’Équipe, Mandanda has no intention of leaving Rennes, despite Samba’s impending arrival at the club. The former was surprised by the news of the latter’s seemingly imminent arrival but he does not envisage leaving the club or retiring. Mandanda is therefore expected to remain until the end of his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
