Sevilla have identified an up-and-coming member of the academy setup at Manchester United as a primary transfer target.
That’s according to Relevo, who have provided an insight into the January recruitment plans at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Sevilla, it is understood, are keen on a deal for Mateo Mejía.
Who is Mejía?
Mejía is a 20-year-old attacker, who generally lines out on the right flank.
After making the move to Manchester from Real Zaragoza in 2020, he initially endured a difficult time of things, spending much of the first three years of his stint in England on the sidelines owing to injury.
The season to date, though, has seen Mejía provide a timely reminder of his talents.
Across nine appearances for Manchester United’s U23s, he has racked up an impressive eight goal contributions, courtesy of three goals and five assists.
As per Relevo, despite interest from across the continent, Sevilla are currently the side best positioned to lure the wide player away from Old Trafford.
United, for their part, are keen to offer Mejía a new contract, ahead of the expiration of his current terms in the summer.
Should a sufficient proposal be forthcoming during the winter window, though, the Red Devils could open to a sale, with Sevilla ready to test the resolve of their counterparts on the red half of Manchester.
