Former Liverpool winger Ben Doak will have a new name on his shirt at Bournemouth. The Scottish winger recently completed a £25m from Anfield to the South Coast as he looks to establish himself as a Premier League star.
The 19-year-old came through the youth system at Celtic before joining Liverpool in 2022, and impressed many while out on loan at Middlesbrough last season, scoring three goals and picking up seven assists.
He was tipped for big things at Liverpool, but only ever made 10 appearances for the Reds, failing to deliver any goal contributions. The teenager won’t be able to add to that tally, having now signed a five-year contract at Vitality Stadium.
Scotland International Ben Doak Changes Name On Shirt
He will wear the number 11 shirt for the Cherries. Beyond his new number, there will also be something different to the back of his shirt at Bournemouth. Indeed, instead of just having Doak written, the player with have Gannon Doak.
He now wishes to go by that – Gannon is the star’s middle name – to reflect both of his parents’ names.
It’s interesting to note that he was referred to as Gannon Doak on the official Bournemouth website when they announced his transfer. The player seemed delighted to have signed for the Cherries, saying:
“I’m buzzing to be here. I feel like it’s the right time for me and it’s a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit.
“The team play very nice football. It’s fast and it really suits my game, so I felt like I couldn’t say no to the chance to play here.”
Despite his young age, Gannon Doak already has six senior caps for Scotland, claiming one assist in that time. Tiago Pinto, Head of Football Operations at Bournemouth, was delighted with the deal, explaining:
“Ben is an exciting young talent who has shown his quality at the highest level despite his age.
“He brings pace and energy that will fit our model well and we’re thoroughly looking forward to helping him fulfil his potential at AFC Bournemouth.
“We’re pleased to bring another player into the club during this window as we continue to reinvest in the squad.”
Bournemouth take on Wolves at home in their next Premier League fixture, having lost to Gannon Doak’s former club Liverpool on the opening day.
