Christian Falk reports that SC Freiburg midfielder Merlin Röhl is attracting interest from Liverpool which is why Freiburg offered him a new contract.
Röhl recently extended his contract in the Black Forest earlier this month and that was likely to fend off interest from the Premier League side. The length of his extension is currently unknown as Freiburg usually keeps the lengths of their contracts secret.
The 22-year-old is currently out with an ankle injury he suffered in Freiburg’s 2-1 win against Bochum. While is performances before his injury has caught the attention of Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann and a call up could be on the horizon in the future.
Röhl is a versatile player as he can play throughout midfield whether in a more defensive or attacking role as well as on the left side.
Despite the departure of head coach Christian Streich in the summer, Freiburg have made a good start under Julian Schuster as they currently sit third in the Bundesliga after three games.
