Former Tottenham coach Antonio Conte is an option for Italy as PSG are interested in current coach Roberto Mancini, as reported by Repubblica.
Conte returning on the Azzurri’s bench is a long shot but at the same time it’s a scenario that could not be entirely ruled out.
The main reason is that Mancini’s position is not so strong anymore after failing the qualification for the 2022 World Cup and the recent games against England and Malta which saw the Azzurri struggling.
Mancini felt he’s been let down by some of the players he called up, especially the ones that played against Malta last Sunday, and he believes that clubs’ priorities count more than the ones of the National team.
In this situation of uncertainty, PSG keep track of what will happen with Mancini as they’re looking for a possibile replacement to Christophe Galtier.
As of right now there isn’t a main candidate to replace Mancini, who has a contract with FIGC (Italian FA) running until 2026 with a reported €3 million per year salary.
Conte has already coached Italy from 2014 to 2016, leading the Azzurri to the quarter-finals at EURO 2016 before joining Premier League side Chelsea.
