For the very first time, there are no winners in a game between Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund. Not only that, the Black and Yellows have now failed to find the net in successive games as they lost to Bodø/Glimt in the second matchday of the Champions League on Wednesday.
“We are naturally dissatisfied,” Lars Ricken said in his post-match interview after the game at Försterei. “I believe that the team accepted the challenge here, played very intensely and very aggressively from the start. As a result, the game was somewhat disjointed.” added the managing director for sport in mixed zone (via Dortmund’s website).
“We’re disappointed as we had higher expectations,” Ole Book shared the sentiment. “To exploit the space behind the defense, you have to play a bit more boldly all over the pitch. We started doing that far too late. That’s the issue we need to address.” said the sporting director as Niko Kovac is yet to win a game since his contract extension.
Borussia Dortmund will have a chance to amend that on Tuesday when they face Champions League debutants Sabah away from home. Their next Bundesliga game will be against Eintracht Frankfurt in next week’s Topspiel.
