Rennes and Lens target Grégory Lorenzi will discuss staying at Brest

Grégory Lorenzi’s role in building the Stade Brestois team that shocked France and secured their place in next season’s Champions League has left him a wanted man for the growing pile of clubs looking for a new sporting director.

Lorenzi was one of the principal architects as he recruited most of the players (and almost all of them for a fraction of what they are now worth after this season). He was also the man responsible for convincing Eric Roy to return to coaching, a stroke of genius considering the manager has led Brest to their best-ever finish as they came third in the league.

According to L’Équipe, Stade Rennais are looking at replacing Florian Maurice (who appears to be OGC Nice-bound) with Lorenzi. However, the Brest-man also figures highly in RC Lens’ thinking.

This situation has pushed Brest into action as they try to keep a sporting director who helped them find the pieces for their podium finish, with Foot Mercato reporting that Lorenzi will hold conversations later today with the club president Denis Le Saint over the prospect of remaining within the project.
