LaLiga returns this weekend and champions Real Madrid host Real Valladolid. The away side will be looking to grab points and stay out of the relegation zone whilst the hosts will be aiming to return to form ahead of a huge two weeks filled with Copa Del Rey and Champions League action.

Real Madrid’s last match was a 2-1 loss at the Camp Nou against rivals FC Barcelona. This defeat all but ruled Los Blancos out of the title race as they were left twelve points behind with only twelve games left to play.

There is still plenty for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to fight for however, as they remain in the Copa Del Rey at the semi final stage and in the Champions League quarter finals. The international break will have done the club a world of good as players such as Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos earned rest, and now Real will look to put in a strong performance against Valladolid this weekend and bring back some confidence ahead of a season defining month.

The away side’s last outing was a 3-1 loss at home to Athletic Club. Athletic were the stronger team for a majority of the game, taking a 2-0 lead before the 60th minute. Valladolid forward Cyle Larin scored to put Athletic on edge, but minutes later the Basque side scored the final goal of the game to take home all three points.

Pacheta’s side have only won one of their last six matches in LaLiga and aren’t in their best moment in terms of goalscoring. Sitting only two points above the relegation zone, Valladolid must find a way to find form before they drop into the relegation zone as the season comes to a close. To earn points away at the champions would no doubt be a boost to the confidence level of their players.
