Real Madrid’s hopes of getting the better of arch rivals Atlético this evening have been dealt an altogether untimely blow.
This comes amid confirmation that star attacker Vinícius Jr. will play no part in proceedings at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Named, as expected, in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI for Sunday’s derby, Vinícius was expected to play a pivotal role for Real, from his berth along the left wing.
A short time ago, however, word was forthcoming that the Brazilian had pulled out of Los Blancos’ warm-up early, with what appeared to be a fitness concern.
And as much has since been confirmed.
As per a whole host of sources across the Spanish media, Vinícius has indeed picked up an injury.
He therefore joins the likes of Antonio Rüdiger, Aurélien Tchouaméni, David Alaba and Thibaut Courtois in being unavailable for selection to boss Ancelotti this evening.
Despite suggestions that Joselu was in line to get the nod, Brahim Díaz will replace the 23-year-old in Real Madrid’s XI.
