Real Madrid prioritising a new striker in the summer amid Benzema’s struggles

Real Madrid are planning to invest in a new centre-forward this summer, claims a report from Cadena SER.

With Los Blancos currently working around the clock to sign top midfield target Jude Bellingham, a new striker could also arrive in the summer.

It could be down to Karim Benzema’s slight dip in form this season. The French striker has struggled with intermittent injury problems, with his fitness issues preventing him from showing the exceptional levels he did during the previous seasons.

Although he has 19 goals to his name this season, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner clearly looks a shadow of his former self.

The 35-year-old has also incurred criticism for his substandard display in the recent Clasico defeat, during which he hardly made his presence felt.

With Benzema entering the twilight of his career, doubts have emerged over his fitness and whether he can return to his best.

The former Lyon striker’s contract at Santiago Bernabeu expires in the summer, but there is an agreement in place over a one-year extension.

Madrid appear to haven’t sorted out a wishlist for a new striker, but they are ready to spend big for him.

Los Merengues signed Endrick Felipe months ago from Palmeiras in an expensive deal with a view to making the Brazilian the future successor to Benzema.

However, the 16-year-old will only move to Bernabeu in 2024 when he turns 18.

Rodrygo Goes has become an integral player for Carlo Ancelotti, coming up with the goods playing in different positions in the attack.

Although the Brazilian’s preferred position is on the flanks, he has played as many games in the No.9 position and has shown enough quality.

Ancelotti had previously pointed out that Rodrygo’s best position is the centre-forward. The 22-year-old has the potential to become the successor to Benzema in the long run.
