Sunday’s action in LaLiga concludes with an Andalusian derby at the Benito Villamarin. Real Betis are hoping to get back to winning ways while Almeria have something to build from after a much needed win last weekend. This game also sees former Betis boss Rubi make his first return to the green and white half of Seville.

There must be a sense of what might have been for Rubi at Betis after a disappointing 2019/20 campaign with the club which was quickly followed by this bright era under Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean has worked wonders with this Betis side and having delivered a trophy last season in the shape of the Copa del Rey, will be dreaming of Champions League qualification this season.

With Villarreal fading a bit after a bright start and neighbours Sevilla in turmoil, this does feel like a real opportunity for Betis to target that much desired 4th place. They will need to balance that against their Europa League commitments but they are now in a strong position to go on and win Group C having taken 4 points from their 2 games against Roma, concluding with a 1-1 home draw against the Italians on Thursday night.

It’s fair to say that their last two league games haven’t gone to plan though with Betis reduced to 10 men in the 1st Half of two successive matches. They did at least manage to grind out a 0-0 draw last weekend in Valladolid after German Pezzella saw red for the second time this season already.

As for Almeria, Rubi was starting to feel the heat after his side lost four straight games to nil prior to last weekend’s home game against Rayo. He decided to ring the changes with the likes of Gonzalo Melero, Adri Embarba and El Bilal Toure coming into the starting XI and the plan worked with Almeria producing a much better performance as they raced into a 3-0 lead in a game they ultimately won 3-1.

You’d expect a similar side to be named here after such improvement but Almeria will also have one eye on another winnable home game against Girona this coming Thursday. Any result here would be a huge bonus but they’ll certainly be the clear underdogs on Sunday night.

Score Prediction: Betis 2-1 Almeria

Almeria’s major improvement last weekend suggests this game might be a bit closer than it otherwise might have been. They looked much more threatening and more like a competitive team at this level with a few more experienced players picked but Betis have been very strong at home so far this season and should get the three points.
