Fabrizio Romano reports that RB Leipzig are interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille in France.
Leipzig’s appeal in the Canada international is due to the fact he can play in several positions. However, Leipzig are looking internally at solutions to this as signing David would prove to be expensive as the 23-year-old has no release clause in his contract.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg adds that Max Eberl and Marco Rose were previously interested in David when they were both at Borussia Mönchengladbach, and that the Canadian would like to leave Lille in the summer.
David is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 15 goals. He joined Lille in 2021 for €27m from Gent in Belgium and after a slow start, has been a hit since.
Leipzig are clearly trying to prepare for the departure of Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea at the end of the season who occupies a second striker role. However, Leipzig have already completed the signing of Benjamin Šeško from Red Bull Salzburg who can play as a striker.
