PSG are keen to extend Lionel Messi’s contract, but the renewal will unlikely to take place before January, report Mundo Deportivo.
The French champions are happy with the 35-year-old’s performance and in October it was communicated that they would be keen on extending his contract, not least to deter interest from Barcelona.
However, it appears as though the player has requested negotiations to be put on hold until at least after the World Cup. Having been included in Argentina’s squad for the tournament by Lionel Scaloni, this will most likely be Messi’s last appearance on the biggest stage of international football.
It is believed that PSG want to extend Messi’s contract by two more years, keeping him at the club until June 2025.
Messi joined the Parisian outfit in the summer of 2021. He has made 52 appearances for PSG in all competitions and scored 23 goals.
