PLAYER RATINGS | Juventus 2-2 Rennes: Good-looking Rennes side record prestigious draw against I Bianconeri

Matchday 3, UEFA Europa League, 22/10/2026

Following an entertaining and lively match, Stade Rennais secured a prestigious draw away at Juventus (2-2). The Breton side, who now have five points from three matches, remain unbeaten in the Europa League this season.

The match

Rennes’ players will certainly have some regrets. Their supporters, on the other hand, surely much pride. For at the Allianz Stadium, Franck Haise’s men proved they were capable of rising to the challenge of major European fixtures. Yet tonight’s match had got off to a bad start for Les Bretons. Caught off guard by a goal from Zeki Çelik (0-1, 5th minute), it looked as though the scenario from their match against OFI Crete a week ago was set to repeat itself. But unlike in their clash with the Greek side, Les Rouge et Noir did not wait until the end of the match to respond this time.

Just a quarter of an hour into the match, Mousa Al-Tamari, capping off a fine team move, sent the hundreds of Rennes supporters packed into the Turin away end into raptures (1-1, 15′). The latter certainly breathed a sigh of relief a few minutes later, when Samba pulled off a brilliant save to prevent Federico Gatti from putting Juve back in front (18′). Then again when the French goalkeeper denied Weston McKennie (29′).

Having kept the score level, Rennes stepped up a gear. Spurred on by Mahamadou Nagida, who put in an impressive performance, they managed to win a penalty just before half-time. It was an opportunity that Boulaye Dia – who had been virtually invisible up to that point – was quick to capitalise on (1-2, 43′).

After the break, spurred on by a desire to crush the opposition, Rennes continued to press forward. And Al-Tamari, who also put in a superb performance, stood out. But it wasn’t enough to pull away. And Europe rarely forgives such lapses. The equaliser, scored from the penalty spot by Nick Woltemade (2-2, 67’), proved this once again. As if stunned by this somewhat unexpected comeback, Charlie Cresswell’s team-mates wobbled, but did not go under. And this despite Turin’s third goal, from Jhon Lucumi, which was ultimately ruled out for offside (88’).

Rennes player ratings

Brice Samba – 7

Anthony Rouault – 5

Charlie Cresswell – 6

Abdelhamid Aït-Boudlal – 5

Mahamadou Nagida – 7

If the European football world hadn’t heard of him before, that has now certainly changed. Putting in a solid performance on the pitch in Turin, Nagida played a pivotal role in his team’s fine display. He set up the equaliser and then won the penalty that led to the second goal. Lively and dangerous, the Cameroonian shone.

Mahdi Camara – 6

Valentin Rongier – 5

Adrien Thomasson – 4

Bryan Reynolds – 5

Mousa Al-Tamari – 7

Expected to take the reins of the attack in the absence of Esteban Lepaul, the Jordanian put in a high-quality performance, despite a few moments of lack of composure. Scoring his first goal of the season to level the score, he proved to be a real thorn in the side of the Juve defence.

Boulaye Dia – 5

Selected Juventus player ratings

Randal Kolo Muani – 3

The Frenchman went through the match like a ghost. He was touched only 24 times, lost nine of the balls he had in his possession and attempted just one shot in 80 minutes.
