Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the 2023/24 DFB Pokal final with a comfortable performance against 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Jeremie Frimpong broke the deadlock after 11 minutes to record his 23rd goal contribution of the season. Leverkusen were in complete control from the first minute and the Dutchman found himself unmarked at the far post to put his side in the lead. Amine Adli then doubled Bayer’s lead just nine minutes later with a low drive before Florian Wirtz capitalised on a defensive error to score his first of the night.
It took Leverkusen just 15 minutes after the break to score their fourth of the night. After consultation with the VAR, Matthias Zimmermann was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area, with Wirtz scoring his second of the night from the spot – that’s his first brace in his professional career in his 141st game for Bayer.
Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 wins means they will play 1. FC Kaiserslautern in May.
