Barcelona are keeping a close watch on Palmeiras defender Luiz Gustavo Benedetti as they continue their search for defensive reinforcements.
The Catalan side have started the 2025/26 LaLiga season strongly, recording two wins and one draw from their opening three matches.
Their strong start has encouraged optimism, yet the need to strengthen the backline remains a priority for the club.
Palmeiras set terms for Barcelona target

Reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Palmeiras have placed a fee of around €15 million for Benedetti. Barcelona are believed to have made an offer of €12 million for the 19-year-old.
The young defender is tied to a long-term contract with Palmeiras until 2029. This gives the Brazilian side greater power in negotiations, as they are under no pressure to sell quickly.
Benedetti has attracted interest beyond Spain. Both Arsenal and Napoli are also said to be keeping a close eye on his progress, highlighting his growing reputation in European scouting circles.
Barcelona’s interest comes after the departure of Iñigo Martínez, who left for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr during the summer.
The club are aiming to find a replacement with a similar profile ahead of the next transfer window.
Why Barcelona want Benedetti
The teenager is regarded as one of Brazil’s brightest young defenders. He is left-footed, strong in aerial duels, and plays with an aggressive front-footed style.
His defensive awareness and pace allow him to cover spaces quickly, while his ball control makes him a reliable option in possession.

Benedetti is also confident with his passing from deep positions, often breaking lines to help his team progress the ball.
This ability fits well with Barcelona’s traditional emphasis on defenders who are comfortable on the ball.
Should he move to Spain, the step up would mark a huge moment in his career. Barcelona have a long record of trusting in youth and giving opportunities to promising talents.
For Benedetti, the move could be a platform to develop further in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.
Currently, the Spanish giants will need to bridge the valuation gap with Palmeiras.
