Oliver Glasner linked to the vacant Union Berlin role

After the shock sacking of former Union Berlin manager Urs Fischer, there are rumours that Oliver Glasner will return to the Bundesliga to take over Union, according to Bild

The former Eintracht Frankfurt manager has proven to be able to form strong squad unity with a diverse mix of personalities whilst also showing his credentials on the pitch having taken Frankfurt to a Europa League triumph in 2022, the DFB Pokal final and the round of 16 in the Champions League.

Since leaving Frankfurt at the end of last season, Glasner has been without a job. The Austrian had previously been shortlisted for the Lyon role whilst also rejecting offers from Saudi Arabia in the summer.

While Union searches for Fischer’s replacement, their U19 coach Marco Grote will be the interim coach for the foreseeable. He will be joined by assistant coach Marie-Louise Eta who will become the first-ever female coach in the Bundesliga.
